The Tattersalls Hotel moulamein
Publicans: Sandra and Josè De Oliveira
I’d like to personally welcome you to the historic Tattersalls Hotel, a grand old dame situated on the banks of the Edward River. Although the original hotel was built in 1849, the current hotel was rebuilt in 1929 after a tragic fire.
In 2020 Josè and I discovered the Tattersalls and felt inspired. Having spent most of our lives owning and restoring pubs in Melbourne, we fell in love with this gem in the beautiful town of Moulamein. We have spent several years and plenty of heart to meticulously bring her back to life.
As the only pub in a town of 500 people we are proud to be hub of the local community, being the waterhole for our various sporting teams and the venue for live bands and key local events.
The Tattersalls is also a home away from home for many travellers, adventurers and water enthusiasts, as Moulamein is widely considered one of the best hunting and fishing spots in New South Wales. We offer a range of accommodation to suit all travellers and budgets, with 2 cabins overlooking the river, 3 en-suited rooms, 5 pub rooms and free camping behind the hotel right on the waterfront. Our welcoming pub even offers free showers and toilet facilities for campers!
Our classic pub menu is a step above, offering outstanding meals created by our talented chef.
Our drive through bottle shop is popular with locals, travellers and fishing enthusiasts.
Moulamein, NSW
The small town of Moulamein (pop approx. 500) is located 855 km south-west of Sydney and 373 km north of Melbourne, and is the oldest town in the New South Wales Riverina district. This historic spot punches well above its weight in drawing visitors to the town.
Not only the oldest town in the Riverina, Moulamein is proud to call itself the friendliest. Moulamein is rich in history and tells the story of the early settlers, shearers, farmers, the meeting of the rivers and more. It's the ideal getaway for families and for those looking to escape the hustle and bustle of the city.
Visitors can enjoy the tranquil waters of the 15 hectare Moulamein Lake, which is fantastic for water skiing, sailing and all sorts of water sports. The Moulamein River Walk traces the Edward River and beautiful Billabong Creek, purported to be the longest creek in the world. A main feature of the walk is the 300 year old Big Tree, believed to be the largest living red gum in Australia, with an impressive circumference of more than 11 metres.
It’s not just water that attracts visitors, as Moulamein is home to a number of historic buildings and attractions. There's the Moulamein Courthouse, perched at the end of the footbridge across Billabong Creek, the Old Wharf, which was constructed in 1908 and still stands as a reminder of bygone days when the town prospered as an inland port, and Moulamein Heritage Village, showcasing artefacts and machinery from the region.
I invite you to visit our lovely little spot in country New South Wales to explore the area, meet the locals and enjoy the accommodation, food and a drink or three in our beautiful old hotel.
